The Tatoi Estate, in the northern outskirts of Athens, was the summer residence of Constantine DeGrecia, the ousted former King of Greece, who fled the country in December 1967. Seven years later, monarchy was abolished by a referendum and DeGrecia raised juridical claims against the Greek State on the so-called "royal property" since then. After a recent compensation settlement, the Tatoi Estate is irrevocably public property and free to visit. The scenery is of unrivalled beauty and the abandonment of more than 35 years matches perfectly the autumn melancholy.
